For the second time, Thai princess Sirivannavari Nariratana, daughter of crown prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and princess Srirat, showed her prêt-à-porter collection in Paris at the invitation of Balmain. The show took place on 27 September.

The press is rapidly becoming familiar with the work of the princess, who is now number 16 on the Forbes List of ’20 Hottest Young Royals’, and there was great interest for her show. Sirivannavari’s style is creative and young, displaying a beautiful balance between traditional clothing from the Orient and modern fashion from the West.

Her Spring 2009 collection is characterized by diversity. On the one hand, there is quite a bit of mysterious black, a touch of glam-rock, with a lot of ingeniously decorated soft leather, patented leather and tight, short outfits abundant with lace and interestingly worked fabrics. But there is also a bohemian-ethnic look with exuberant, original materials decorated, among others, with (strings of) beads, fringes, frills and lace, all in warm, intense colors.

The hair styles, this year by top stylist Olivier de Vriendt, formed a perfect match with the fashion presented. During the Paris Fashion Week De Vriendt served as Chef de Cabin for Balmain Hair and he closely collaborated with princess Sirivannavari to create a look which pays tribute to Thai cultural traditions but is also considered super hot on the catwalks of the West.

In consultation with Balmain Hair’s Creative Director, Richard Guliker, De Vriendt created the same type of hairdo for all the models with the help of hair pieces by Balmain Hair. It was only the hair colors that differed here.

For this hairdo, the model’s own hair is pulled back tightly and wrapped around the skull; longer hair is combed upwards and pinned to the top into a sleek ‘helmet’.

On the crown a long hair piece is pinned so that it falls down over the forehead in the shape of a fringe. The whole hairdo is then fixed with a great deal of hairspray.

This year Balmain Hair’s international team consisted of hair stylists from France, Thailand, the Netherlands, the Farao Islands, North-America, Russia and Germany. The models’ hair has become increasingly important – in fact, the hairdo is now considered to be an essential part of a total catwalk look. And in this context Balmain Hair has become an essential partner for backstage work. After all, Balmain Hair’s collection makes the impossible possible.
